FAQs
WHAT IS “COPY”?
“Copy” is writing that is used to describe services and sell products. “Web copy” generally refers your landing page, product page, and about us pages. That’s your digital sales pitch. Your average visitor spends just seconds on your landing page. An effective one elevates your reputation, establishes your brand, funnels your visitors to the right places, and sells your product.
what is “content”?
Content is writing that is used to engage, entertain, and inspire your audience. Its secondary purpose is to drive traffic to your sales pages and raise you up the search engine rankings. If copy is your engine, content is your fuel. It’s not directly used to sell - more to build a genuine, valuable, trustworthy resource offering for your customers. It includes things like articles, social media posts, videos, and podcasts.
do i need a “tone of voice”?
Every effective brand has a strong personality and a consistent tone of voice. By ascertaining who your brand is, you can help control how people receive it. Examples of killer tone of voice work include Oatly, Brewdog, and the 1994 Ronseal ad (you’ll recognise it). If you don’t have a voice yet, we can help you find it, and draw up some TOV guidelines - really handy for passing around to other freelancers so they get your tone right with minimal briefing.
what do you mean by “internal communications”?
Whether external (to customers) or internal (to staff), the way your brand speaks is important. Spotify has a world class internal culture because it dedicates vast resource to its internal brand. That’s how it’s able to attract the top 1% of global talent. See our case study for a snapshot of how it’s done.
